Entrepreneurs with a desire to reduce their plastic waste

The team of Rost Dock decided to take part in the prototyping process with a focus on a new initiative in which they take part as one of six founders. "Plastikfreie Stadt" is Germany's first network-based entrepreneurial initiative for voluntary savings of disposable plastic. The initiative was founded in May 2019 by 6 companies from the Hanseatic and university city of Rostock and is currently in the seed phase. At the moment the initiative is organised by a registered association and the start-up phase will be significantly shaped by 3-4 initiators. The concept that is crystallising out has the claim to be transferable throughout Germany to achieve a fast and efficient reduction of the consumption of disposable plastics.
Kayaks for kids that are fun

Improving the problem of lack of recognition in producing kayaks for kids, not for sport kayaks... yet. “Future Kayaks” is rather small company but they are innovative because they produce smaller and lighter kayaks in two size, dedicated for children. It was decided to create 3 creative graphics for kayaks for kids. This graphics are adjusted to the target group to which the company directed kayaks which are children. New graphics will make the product more attractive in terms of finance and recognition. Their idea was to find a bigger company, which could produce kayaks and they wanted to cooperate with them finally. They found big company producing kayaks and it’s easier to sell product as a part of cooperation with a famous company.
KMTP Castle Workshops

In 2018 Western Baltic Shipyard together with creative industries and with the help of Science and Technology Park launched a new space for creative industries in Klaipeda. This building previously hosted administration of the shipyard, but for quite a while it was empty. The building is located near Klaipėda oldtown, in the heart of the city and it became a perfect place for designers, photographers, artists, painters, and other creative minds.
The mission of KMTP Castle Workshops is to provide the necessary space for creativity, crafts, prototyping and to gather representatives of the creative industries of the port city under one roof, whose cooperation would encourage starting and developing businesses, laying the foundations for the formation of the Creative Industries Cluster.
The KMTP team at the Castle Workshop aims to promote the application of new technologies in the development of various products or services, help residents set guidelines for business development, measure risks and make appropriate decisions to avoid painful mistakes.
To find the best way how to transform this real estate to business was used The Business Canvas model.
For JSC Western Shipyard this developed business model perfectly revealed the potential of the real estate and the possibilities of its use. Using the Canvas business model has helped better plan and identify sources of value creation and see the connection with business strategy. Market research, competitive environment analysis, a consumer (customer) needs analysis, and modeling of future service changes were performed using this model. JSC Western Shipyard has adopted this business model and now the company is working on its implementation.
How to Organize? A system for storing and organising small spaces

As part of the CTCC (Creative Traditional Companies Cooperation) project, a team from the Pomeranian Science and Technology Park in Gdynia developed, in collaboration with ORPLAST, a traditional company, and KABO&PYDO - design studio, a system for storing and organizing small spaces consisting of a set of boxes of different sizes.
The main design challenge during the work was how we can help users of small spaces (apartments, offices), to sort and divide their belongings, organize and clean the space around them, using environmentally friendly and sustainable products.
Before the work began, a survey was conducted among users about what they thought of reusable boxes and their purpose. After analyzing the results, it became clear that a system for storing and organizing small spaces should consist of a set of boxes of different sizes. The new product line should be an alternative to the unattractive products that are currently on the market. The product should also be designed to allow for clever and quick organization of space and should be aesthetically pleasing.
In order to bring more environmentally friendly products to the market, it was crucial to create a system that could be developed and expanded in the future. Therefore, out of concern for the highest quality of the product and its versatile application a multidisciplinary design team was formed: ORPLAST - Łukasz Szejbut Chief Design Officer Traditional Company, KABO&PYDO - Katarzyna Borkowska and Tomasz Pydo Product & Design Studio, creative company and from PPNT Gdynia | Centrum Designu Paulina Kisiel as Design Management CTCC Creative Broker.
The team determined that the containers made of eco-friendly material were to include:

Stackable for transport
Aesthetic, sculptural and decorative interior
Practical application – adaptable to many dome and office spaces.
Collaborative design work resulted in 6 concepts with different shapes and features. Selected of them have: storage properties (when closed, they can be stacked on top of each other, first to fit into larger ones). The material chosen for production is Biocomposite – resins are PLA based on starch (produced from responsibly grown sugar cane and sugar beet, among other things), reinforced with industrial hemp. It is a biocompostable material.
The collaborative prototype has helped to strengthen sustainability and the circular economy and has enabled the launch of a product line for organizing objects in a new way – not as products in themselves, but as a system – containers as an organization and storage system.
